The first time I saw this film was with my high school boyfriend. We were watching it on his parents’ yellow couch in his basement. It was summer break and hot; we were licking popsicles when the bedroom scene came on, the one where Jean-Paul Belmondo goes “I want to sleep with you again because you are beautiful” ~ to which Seberg replies “I’m not” ~ so Belmondo says back quickly “Then because you are ugly.” My high school boyfriend turned to me and looked me right in the eyes and declared very confidently ~ “This is the most romantic film of all time.” See: Miami Blues starring Alec Baldwin (1990).
